Are the usb ports on an xbox 360 always powered?

I recently modded my xbox and ended up frying a circuit that powers the cooling fans. SO i connected the fans to a usb cord and ran the fans off the back usb port on the xbox...however i noticed that as long as the xbox is plugged in, even if its not turned on the usb ports seem to have power. Is this normal? And is there a setting to have the usb ports turn on and off with the xbox?

Yeah its normal. Its the same thing whenever you leave your xbox controller plugged in it turns off but it still uses little power to charge it. And no there is not a setting to turn your xbox usb ports off.

The usb ports are always on even when you switch the xbox console off, as long as it is plugged in and on and the mains. I do not believe that there is a setting to control when the usb ports turn on or off, you'd have to switch it off at the mains.P.S. I believe this occurs on all of the different xbox 360 consoles.

yes that is normal for you xbox to do that. however, i do not believe there is a setting to change when the usb ports turn on and off. :)
