Connecting my fios stb to surround sound?

Connecting my fios stb to surround sound? i have a standard fios set top box and a samsung blue ray 5.1 channel home theatre system. this means my blue ray player is also the reciever. i read somewhere that u have to plug a digital audio out cable from the set top box to the blueray/reciever to get sound. is this true? what cable exactly will work?! plze provide a link if you can.

I don't know what connections you equipment has without model numbers, but it will most likely be fiber optic with a toslink connector.
