Converting AVI files to DVD format?
Converting AVI files to DVD format? I have an AVI movie file on my computer that I would like to convert to be able to play on a DVD player. I converted it to MPEG 2 (ntsc.mpg) format and burned it on a DVD+R disc, but did not play on my dvd player (No video nor audio), nor can quicktime read it. As i had thought MPEG 2 played on all dvd players, im not sure what im doing wrong. I have a macbook pro and am using iskysoft video converter.

DVD format is VOB. It contains two folders Video_TS and Audio_TS, you have to convert your video to DVD compatible video at first, otherwise regular DVD player can not read and play it. If you don't know how to burn a playable DVD, I think this DVD Creator would help you a lot. I always use it to convert and burn movie to DVD to play on my home TV, it's easy to use and works pretty well, if you are interested in it, here is a step by step guide about how to use it.

Yes, you are wrong, most dvd players only recognize standard video DVD well which should include VOB, IFO and BUP files, standard video DVD use MPEG-2 codec to encode video data and save as mpg or vob files, but most dvd players can't play separate vob or mpg files on dvd disc, must have the right IFO and BUP files on the DVD disc, so if you want to play the burned DVD well on DVD player, you need to use a right software to convert your avi files to standard video DVD and burn onto your DVD+R disc, but I don't know what software is good for macbook pro, I just know a good software for windows, if your have a windows computer, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any video files to standard video DVD and burn to any dvd disc(DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), such as convert and burn avi files to standard video DVD, and the burned standard video DVD can be played well on your DVD player. You can yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, easy to use, hope it can help you.
