Open Question
DSLR Camera or Laptop?
I have to pick between buying a DSLR or an HP Laptop. I'm 13 & I'm having trouble deciding. If it's a DSLR I'm most likely going to get a Canon & if I get a laptop, well, HP.I've been wanting to get my hands & own my own DSLR since I'm really into photography & I'm sick of low quality pictures. But I'll be stuck using a very slow 2001 iMac or I'll have to borrow my mom's MacBook for uploading and editing pictures. The laptop will help more for school, keeping touch with friends, video chatting & all of that good stuff, but I'll be stuck with a crappy camera & my iPhone camera.Should I just ask for the DSLR from my mom and save up for a laptop, or ask for laptop and save for a DSLR?*I've asked this question before but here's further details.

You'll probably want the Laptop and the DSLR, the Laptop will be something you need, the camera will be something you have much more want and desire for. If you get the camera you may end up filling up and hogging your family computer even more, and if you get the camera you may not be able to fully use its potential if you dont have a good enough computer to process the files withIf you get a camera, get the canon as it comes with a slightly better lens and gives you the freedom to buy whichever other lenses you want, if you want there is a canon 75-300 for about $120 and a sigma for about $150 so really you don't cut anything out with the canon but leave yourself open to pick what you want

So here are some thoughts. If you want to access the internet, send emails, word processing, process photos etc then get a laptopIf you want to take photographs then get a DSLRHowever! If you don't have a computer then the DSLR will be of very limited use.If you get the DSLR and take some really good shots then you may be able to earn enough to but the laptop. Here's a good way if you really can't decide - it is a way to focus the mind. Toss a coin - if it's heads then get the DSLR, if it's tails get the laptop - but here's the twist! If after tossing the coin you are happy with the outcome then go with it. If you are disappointed with the outcome then do the opposite.

If you bought a laptop, you will still yarn for a camera. I was in the same spot. Fortunately I was able to get both. But if you don't need to bring a computer anywhere else from where it is now, you don't need a laptop.
