Do receivers with DTS HD only have 7 channels? This is a stupid question, but I want to buy a reciever with DTS HD, and wanted to know if they only come with 7.1 or if DTS HD is found on some 5.1 recievers... I am looking to buy a Sony reciever, any suggestions?

All receivers with DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD decoder has 7.1 channel, some newest model has 9.1 channel. Only Home Theater in a Box ( Blu-ray player and amp built -in ) with DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD decoder comes with 5.1 channel.
answer: BANG P time: 2010-10-11 04:33:18The Onkyo TX SR 308 has it and is only 5.1 and it is much better that Sony, the amps have a better damping factor also Onkyo measures from 20 to 20k where Sony only measures at 1Hz , this means the amp sounds better producing bass more accurately and also the treble is more refined...also they are able to push 4ohm speakers...
answer: Lance time: 2010-10-09 19:33:25why dont you go for a sony 7.1 receiver and then biamp the front speakers to make it 5.1 that way if you ever want to upgrade back to 7.1 then you can connect your front speakers back to the normal way.
I have a onkyo 875 receiver and biamped my Kef Q7 and the sound is superb i am not interested in 7.1 not that there is that many 7.1 movies anyway and to have 4 surrounds is not a option due to space.
They have the SONY STRDN1000 for £299.95 at richersounds and has DTS MA and TRU HD
All the best
