How come my headphones only pick up static from my TV?
Okay. So I have an Emerson LCD TV with only one audio output: "Audio Out [Coaxial]". I want to listen to my TV through headphones so I got a headphone jack to RCA converter which has two RCA male ends, white and red (left and right audio). I put it into a Y converter to make it mono and plugged it into the Audio Out. My TV still plays the sound normally and all my headphones pick up is static.
Can somebody help me please? Are my headphones not capable of interpreting a coax signal or something? If so, do I need knew headphones or something else?

Coaxial audio out is digital for hooking up to surround sound amplifier. You could hook this to such an amplifier (preferably one with a headphone jack)
Unless your headphones are amplified, you will need a source of sound with a headphone jack.
Are you using a separate tuner? Some satellite or cable tuners have analog audio outputs. If so, you may be able to hook to it.
