I want an HDTV, but will my STD def DVR stop working?
I want to buy a new HDTV but was told that I MUST buy a new HD receiver. I have a std def DVR and was told by DirecTV that it won't work unless I get the new receiver. Will that DVR stop working or can I still use it before I switch?

Hello - You may not need to buy/lease a new directv receiver to watch programming and to record using your dvr with your new HDTV. However, you will not be able to view and record in HD, because the standard def dvr is only capable of receiving the the std def signal. If you are going to spend the money on an HDTV, you will want an HDDVR or HD receiver....the bad part is, is they range from $99 to $199 and their is a $10 HD charge. Not to mention they will come out and put up a new dish too. That's usually free with the lease price of the receiver. (installation and dish is included usually) What model is your DVR? ...you can find the model# by opening up the front panel and reading the sticker..it will start with and R ie..R15, R16, R22.
