Im going to buy a new amplifier for speakers but i have no idea what to get? I have two 75 watt speakers and two 50 watt speakers and i want to buy and amplifer that can power them both so..a 4 channel ampifire i think. But i dont know how powerful the amp needs to be. When on the specification it says 100 watts does that mean 1 channel? or both channels? and whats RMS?
cheers

The manufacturer should specify what the power rating is based on for example 100 watts/ch all channels driven. If it does not say all channels then it's likely based on single channel driven.

This http://emotiva.com/upa5.shtm is a fantastic 5-ch amplifier 125x5 and at a very reasonable price.

Speaker power ratings are mostly meaningless because they can not be expressed by a single number. Speakers have both thermal and mechanical limits both of which are a function of frequency so you can't just say X number of watts as the power rating. The key is don't play them so loud that they are straining. Having more power is better because it reduces the chance of amplifier clipping which will destroy speakers.

Just get a simple 100 watt per channel receiver with "A" and "B" speaker outputs for two sets of speakers (4 speakers):

Don't worry about the watts, rms or whatever. As long as you don't play the system so loud that it is distorting badly, you'll be fine. Be nice to your speakers and they will last a long time.

rms is what your speakers are recomended to handle. get a 4 channel about 500 watt rms. and if you would add a woofer eventually get 5 channel
