Iphone is not letting me surf the web and talk at the same time anymore?

When I'm at home and on the phone I can surf the web via Wifi, but when I'm on the go My "3g" coverage doesn't show and I can't do anything. I have the iphone 3gs 16g. Why is this happening? Please help

Answer Question

To talk and surf at the same time without WiFi requires a 3G connection. The other type of data connection, called EDGE, is slower and does not work with simultaneous talk and surfing. The reason you get either 3G or EDGE is due to the service of your carrier and the location of its cell towers in your area.
