My ps3 won't display my games properly in any resolution higher than 480p?

Whenever I change the resolution to 720p and start any game the result is a squished picture. Not wide screen-wise but the other way. I have a 19" Dynex TV and the optional resolutions are 480p, 720p, and 1080i. I know that 720p is the highest I should go because progressive is better than interlaced. The picture shows up incorrectly and I was wondering if there is a way to fix this? I do have the "zoom" options on my tv, but I can't use those on 720p.

Answer Question

see the problem can be due to 3 things 1 the game has a certain resolution settings so the game that you are playing may not have compatibility for that resolution2 the ps3 output settings are wrong or changed this can be changed in ps2 as i have ps2 you can go to google and search how to go to the menu of ps33 THE MOST LIKELY IS THAT YOUR TV AND YOUR PS3 ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER OR THE BOTH CANT READ THEIR OUTPUTS AND INPUTS i had the same problem in ps2 and i reckoned that my tv was not compatible hope this helps :)
