answer: Betsey time: 2011-10-23 13:47:48Ask folks at the school. They should provide a list...Capabilites should include:Least compression of the video data to the storage media.Audio input jack.Audio gain control.Manual focus.Manual zoom.New, the Canon HV40 fits all these requirements as does the Sony HDR-HC9.You will also need a decent fluid head tripod and other steadying devices, maybe a video light, several different mics (shotgun, wireless lavaliere, other condenser mic - along with the XLR adapter to connect them to the camcorder)... consider an audio field recorder like a Zoom H2 or H4.Do not spend the whole budget on the camcorder. The camcorder is an important part of a larger system - but not the only thing.
answer: Little Dog time: 1970-01-06 18:00:13Sony is probably the best brand. They have great quality, life span and prices. Here is a list of good HD camcorders for $1200 or less. - Sony HDRXR520V - Sony HDRXR150 - Sony HDRCX550V - Sony HDRCX110Bhttp://www.sony.com.au/productcategory/c…You cannot get many SemiPro video cameras for this price. A SemiPro video camera is larger, higher definition and looks more industry style. Hope you find what your looking for and have fun at film school!

answer: Kitty time: 1970-01-06 16:00:10Canon HV20 is very nice. Shoots in HD, lower compression (means better image quality and easier to edit). You can focus manually, has a lamp for in the night and you can put a microphone on it. With your budget you could also buy the HV30 or HV40. But I would definetely buy a microphone for the money left. The Rode videomic is very well priced for it's quality: http://www.amazon.com/Rode-VideoMic-Dire…I would really suggest buying at least an external microphone. Internal microphones are never ok and when you're doing interviews you want to have proper sound. Best would be to get the rode videomic and an xlr cable, hand microphone and female xlr to mini jack male.If you still have money definetely get a tripod with a FLUID head. Only with a fluid head you can make smooth pans. But those are quite expensive.
