What are the coloured wires in the phone line?
i would like to know which ones are for power in/ground and data in/out although im not sure if they work this waythere are 4 colors in the phone cable im using red yellow black and greeni am asking this because i need to attach the wires to a usb cable (for my own purpose)i just dont seem to be able to get it to work....

the wires are line on Tip is green and red is ringline 2 tip is black and yellow is ring I m do not think you can do what you are trying to do you are mixing two different types of technology

answer: Carl N time: 2010-07-26 03:01:32if you want to short out the phone line, and possibly fry whatever you are connecting then you can connect a USB cable to a telephone wire... the phone line has -48VDC when idle 9VDC when off-hook and 90VAC when ringing... green and red are for line 1 yellow and black are normally not connected - unless you have 2 lines, in which case they are for line 2i found this USB to RJ11 adapter http://www.abccables.com/305-0113.html although i have absolutely no idea what it could be used for, other than to make a cheap USB extension cord...
