What exactly is a long distance call?
I mean, when I call a person from the same city as I live in but he has a different area code is that long distance? Or is long distance outside the state?

I'd consider an out of state & beyond call to be long distance.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to determine if a call to a given number will be long-distance before you call.Generally calling someone in the same town or city will not be a long distance call, but this may not be the case if you live in the outskirts / rural areas or you are calling someone who is.Major cities often have overlay area codes. For example I live in a city where there is local calling to 4 different area codes, but not all telephone numbers in each of those area codes will be considered a local call to me. I have three phone lines installed at my house, two of them have one area code, the third has a different area code. My cell phone (from the same city) has another area code, and my dad's cellphone (as you may guess) has yet another area code.I should note that 4 area codes is unusual. Most major cities that do have overlays, only have one extra area code. It's just that in the city where I live, we have two different overlay systems that overlap each-other so there are a total of 4 different area codes.
