At the moment, samsung are running the show. They are cheaper, well made and last for ages. And I am not saying that if I was a Chelsea fan! It all depends on how much money you have. You can get some good cheap ones, but to keep up, you have to buy a half decent one.

Basically, if it's a Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, Samsung or LG, you can't go wrong.

For me it's LG, just bought an LG 42LF2500 42" Full 1080p HD TV. Both the HD and upscaled SD channels look brilliant.

According to What HI-FI Sound & Vision it very much depends on the screen size.
