Why Do You Think The Majority Has Not Moved Over To Blu-rays Yet?
I have been reading some recent newsletters from SONY and they say that majority of the public has not bought into Blu-rays yet; despite their superior quality over DVDs.
I was wondering why this is? Is it the price? Are people questioning going over to a new format they are unfamiliar with?

There are still alot of TV's that cant watch Bluray yet. Another 3 or 4 years should see enough older sets fall off and Bluray might take over DVD's. The cost is coming down as they sell and produce more of them. Or someone will come out with 3D sets and call it green view and take over the whole market with something new and cool. I am scared more of the later as HD discs are gone like the Betamax.

answer: David time: 1970-01-05 09:00:09I think the major reason is that the majority of people still do not have HD TV's most people still have older TV's which will not accept HDMI cable, also you have to buy a blu ray player.
answer: oldman time: 1970-01-03 16:00:18format not problem, most website supply convert bluray to other format,like this www.bdrconvert.com
the biggest problem is price,one pcs blank bluray disc price(bulk price is only $1.6 or less--from www.twinro.com) is 3times one pcs blank DVD, but this is 25GB BDR, 4.7GB DVD, so the disc price isn't problem;
the BDR rom/ BDR reader price is too high, so it's still not very popular
It's the price, and people's reluctance to abandon a format they may have invested hundreds or thousands of dollars in. I think a lot of people don't understand the whole "up-scaling" idea, and perhaps the idea of updating firmware may intimidate the people who like plug-and-play simplicity.
Price is becoming less of an issue and will continue to do so. I just got my first Blu-Ray at WalMart for a hundred bucks, which is a LOT less than my first DVD player was only eight or nine years ago!
Well, you need a Blu Ray player, to play them, and they are expensive for some people, so maybe it is price. It is most definitely the price as to why we don't have one.
answer: Amaterasu time: 1970-01-02 14:00:08yes, price. of the discs, the players, and there being no real reason for it. yes they are better quality, but you can't replace all your regular DVDs so why start when everything is going to downloads. before BR can take over, we'll be saving all our movies to our HDs. no more discs at all of any kind.
