Answer Question

Your question assumes that every blu ray is 30 bucks. I have a bunch of them, and they cost me 10 bucks, they are common at wal mart and Target. I would never pay 30 bucks. How many people have you met that pay 30 and how do you know they only watch it once?

I've pondered this question myself. People like the features which make pausing and skipping scenes without stopping the movie possible. But the only blue ray ive purchased is cars for my son which looks amazing on our flat screen. I'll add more to my collection in a few years when the next big thing comes out and i can find blue ray dvds in my favorite bargain bins :)

For most people it doesn't make sense. Personally I'd never pay more than $15 for a movie.

However, consider the couple who have a couple of kids. They want to go to a movie so they have to pay to get there, pay a babysitter and pay for two tickets (and may decide to have dinner out since they are going to be "free" for the evening anyway). Total cost $100+ .... so assuming, they have the equipment to enjoy Blu-ray at home on a reasonable size screen, $30 for the disk (and $20 for pizza) is relatively cheap.

Sure, they could rent the movie for a lot less, but it may be worth it to them to buy the occasional "good" movie to avoid having to take it back and to be able to see it again with friends/visitors).

well here is your perfect answer, if you spend 30 bucks on a blu ray and watch it once or twice your an idiot. I have a blu ray player and a couple of movies I have paid 30 for but I have watched those movies not joke at least 8 times apiece. If you hunt for bargins you will never pay 30 bucks for a movie unless your like me and its a great flick and your don't want to drive 10 miles to save 10 bucks. Zombie land worth every penny of 30 bucks.

That is a good question, it does seem like a stupid way to spend money. Of course if you have a lot of money invested in a Home Theatre then it is nice to have a few good movies ready and waiting to play either for your own entertainment or in the event you have guest that would like to watch something. It takes time to go out and rent something or otherwise you have to plan ahead to get a movie from something like Netflix. Having a nice selection of your own is the only way to make the home theatre ready and available to enjoy.

I do have a number of disc I have only watched once and may never watch again but on the other hand I have several that have been viewed numerous times. Sometimes this is simply because I really like the movie and want to watch it again even if on my own. Other times I may have guest that may not have seen a particular movie and want to see it in my home theatre so I watch it again with them.

Yup... another Million dollar question...
Why? - cuz PPL have money.

I've often wondered why people spend their money like they do - from overpriced organic foods to $3000 Macbook pros to surf the internet. Whatever... spend money on whatever you please.

Since we are in an HT category:
Why PPL buy blurays is like why PPL buy Bose HT systems: for status symbol... who cares about the sound, quality, fidelity...
One [weak ones] likes to feel like they are a part of something... Cuz Bose advertises, and has a Big name in HT... PPL want a part of it - even though it's garbage, PPL are too blinded by VANITY - and too dumb to know what's quality - sorry for the Harsh tone - but it's the truth.... Also, It's like why would anyone buy a book: how many times would you read it again?? - ... it'll just stay on the wall - shelf.... ... but* - they will have a reason for one of their frends or family or someone they are trying to impress - come and see what they've read... ... DVD/VHS/CD - what a person's interest/hobby/preferences can be seen on their library shelf. Then when one [weak ones] -get confronted: why waste your money? They'll defend their purchases as if they were born to this earth to own that useless stuff...

I say the hell with that - I too do not believe in buying garbage - and then let it accumulate. I'll all end up in self storage, or garage sale or garbage anyways. And I say you do not need fancy cra*p to show off you have money: There are some that know something is garbage - yet they still buy it cuz their friend has one - and it looks cool on the coffee table...

Hope this explains it!
